2020 SGIM Annual Meeting

Description

May 6 - 9, 2020 | Birmingham, AL

The 2020 SGIM Annual Meeting will encompass the breadth and depth of General Internal Medicine, including health services research, medical education, advocacy, and exemplary clinical care. This year's theme is Just Care: Addressing the Social Determinants for Better Health. The Social Determinants of Health are the conditions in the environments in which people are born, live, learn, work, play, worship, and age that affect a wide range of health, functioning, and quality-of-life outcomes and risks.” (Healthy People 2020). Health outcomes strongly relate to these upstream social determinants of health, which include a variety of non-medical factors like food access and nutrition, transportation, housing, incarceration and recidivism, jobs/wages, safety, education, and other community-based, and environmental conditions. This directly relates to SGIM’s mission to cultivate innovative educators, researchers, and clinicians in academic general internal medicine, leading the way to better health for everyone.
